Welcome to "Taking Flight."

So, it may seem somewhat random that I've started a blog. Honestly, I never thought that I would be a blog person, but lately it just seems like a good thing to do. I've been stuck with a dreadful writer's block, but not for lack of thought. So I felt one appropriate response to this would be to create a medium with which to express myself in free-form.

The other reason for starting this blog is to keep tabs with my family back home in Colorado. When you ask 'how's New York', it's pretty much always impossible to give a good answer, so I just say 'good'. With this I can  keep you up to date with the monotony of my daily life....Or rather my week-to-week changes in life goals and schemes to pay off my student loans.

A bit about the name....It's seems really cheesy, and I already want to change it for that reason, but I assure it's not as cheesy as sounds. The name is referring to my self-applied moniker of 'Flying Dutchman.' So in keeping with this nickname, as I've finished college and moved on to young adulthood, you could say I'm growing my wings or learning to fly (to allude to Pink Floyd). Still cheesy. Deal with it. And to make it even cheesier, ever since reading Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man my senior year in high school, I've always identified with taking flight as a poignant metaphor for reaching adulthood and independence. Flying above the nets of tradition, society, religion, family, country.

....Well enough pseudo-intellectual babble for now. I'm running on two hours of sleep, so I'm sure it's utterly worthless.

So, let us begin. Welcome to my blog. At the moment I am eating rotini and listening to The Wall. I worked today at 4am (well, that is I showed up at 4am, only to discover an hour later, that I had been misinformed and the call actually started at 5), and I couldn't sleep last night. I should be sleeping right now....meh.

Enough for now; I'll post my first real blog sometime today.

Cheers,

The Flying Dutchman
