Brett Favre

You know, I'm always the first to take a jab at Brett Favre. I think he's been a media darling the last few years, and everyone's been real annoyed with the retirings, un-retirings, and screwing over the team that gave him such a great home for the majority of his career. And of course for me, the seed of hate against Favre was planted at a young age. Cheering for the Broncos back when they were a team you could actually cheer for without inviting suicide or ptsd, they didn't get any credit. When it was John Elway vs. Brett Favre, the media was all in favor of Favre. So more than the typical 'hater' (except for Packers fans I guess), I've never liked him.

But let's not forget something. Let's not forget the incredible career he actually had. There's a reason the media went gaga over his retirement and un-retirement. And there's a reason everyone (even those who said they didn't) cared. Look what he did last year in Minnesota. He took a mediocre-at-best team that relied too heavily on the run game and turned it into a Super Bowl contender that was exciting to watch.

But most important is the streak that ended tonight. Say what you will about his drama queening of late or of text messages he may or may not have sent, that streak is one of the most impressive feats in modern sports. 297 starts in a row. Every single game since 1992. Bill Clinton was not even president yet the last time Brett Favre missed a game. I was 4 years old. Favre's streak is as old as the European Union....I could go on. If you really want more, here's some nostalgia for you.

The point is, we can keep on hating Brett Favre, and I'm not saying you shouldn't, but you have to always keep in mind that he accomplished something that I don't think anyone ever will again do in the future of the NFL (especially if they go to 18 games).

Cheers,

The Flying Dutchman.
